What is Pogba's best position?
Paul Pogba has been playing as a left winger for the opening 2 premier league games and registered 5 assists. With Marcus Rashford out injured it begs the question, should Paul Pogba stay in a wide position?
First, we must examine Manchester United's current midfield options. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer often plays the 4-2-3-1 formation, with two holding midfielders and two wingers. The two holding midfielders are usually Fred and Mctominay.
The issue with Fred and Mctominay is the lack of creativity and defensive cover. Both Fred and Mctominay's passing range is limited and carrying the ball from midfield to the final third is a major issue. Pogba has incredible passing range but he lacks the defensive capabilities of a defensive mid. Pogba thrives in a creative position and to make him play as a defensive mid will hinder his ability to create and score goals. The attacking mid position is taken by the one and only Bruno Fernandes' who scored a hat trick on opening day. The only creative position that leaves is left wing.
We must remember that in Solskjaer's system, left wing does not just limit Pogba to that position. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plays a fluid system where you'll see the front four constantly changing positions as the game moves along. Paul Pogba has shown he's effective playing up top and should remain there to see the best out of him.
